Yes, and its a ripple effect. If you get one aspect of your life organized, the others are easier to line up, and eventually, you'll be pretty close to having a low stress existence.

You make a good point, BrainLady (using the name in your email). For the scope of this article I didn't use a lot of data -- there's plenty of that on the internet.

I agree with you that there are people at greater risk medically to face the flu. Could the vaccine help them? Perhaps. But there are a lot of variables in the mix that can render the vaccine ineffective, not the least of which is the very real possibility that the virus mutates and the new antigen doesn't match the antibodies created by vaccination.

Thank you for leaving a comment!

There is no data in this "article". Yes, there is a bit of hysteria, but you are totally missing the point. There are certain people for whom the risks are outweighed by the benefits of not getting the H1N1 virus. There are many people who think that they have gotten H1N1 and report that it "wasn't that bad" who never had that diagnosis confirmed and probably didn't have H1N1.

Dear Christopher,
Thank you for your recent article "Ignore Swine Flu Hysteria: 5 Reasons NOT to get The Swine Flu Vaccine . . . and 5 Things You Can Do To Promote Health During Flu Season"
I have enjoyed reading this and have forwarded it along to patients, friends, family and colleagues. The importance of getting adequate sleep, the right nutrition, proper exercise and hygiene to keep the immune system working well is essential! As is lowering stress. Education is the key. And this is what I emphasize with my patients. Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine are another great tool to assist the whole person to maintain balance and a healthy immune system.
I really appreciate your post and will continue to pass this along.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Reid, L.Ac.

Thank you for this article, Christopher. I am in support of your writings, and will pass this forward to my patients. I believe in this, like you said, it's best to treat the whole person keeping the immune system strong, improving patient education, focusing on nutrition and sleep, lowering stress, getting adequate exercise and maintaining good hygiene. Other symptoms that come up can most often be addressed well with acupuncture and Oriental medicine.

I totally agree with you on this! I haven't had the flu in over 2 years, why would I go and get a vaccine and put all that crap into my body if my body has already been doing a great job of keeping me healthy!

Good stuff Christopher!

Christopher, this is a fabulous article! I've been flip flopping on the vaccine, and even my husband was convinced our daughter should get one. This will hopefully put things in perspective. Have a wonderful day!

Cat -- I'd be honored!

FitPro and Estelle -- Thank you for reading and for your comments -- glad I could help!

Nisha -- Yes, the Mercury-containing additive you speak of would be Thimerosal, I believe . . . and it is funny how mercury is considered so harmful in everyday conversation, but it's 'perfectly safe' in vaccines.

Thanks for further specifying the beneficial vitamins and minerals that boost immunity; congrats on your 8-month-old and thanks for sharing his swine flu survival story!
